Passport Operations in Response to COVID-19

We are accepting New Passport applications starting June 15th, by appointment only M-F from 10:00 am-1:00 pm; there will be significant delays due to the US Department of State opening their facilities in phases and operating with limited staff.  The US Department of State is recommending and encouraging you to wait until they are processing at full capacity to submit your passport application.

Individuals will be required to answer a health screening questionnaire, wear a mask, and practice social distancing while inside our building.

*Please bring with you- Check or Money Order, Certified Birth Certificate or previous Passport, Identification(Drivers License), and Passport Application.

The Grand Traverse County Treasurer’s Office is a passport application acceptance facility.

Our passport processing hours are Monday thru Friday 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m by appointment.

Passport Information

You must apply in person using Form DS-11 if at least one of the following is true:

  • You are applying for your first U.S. passport
  • You are under age 16
  • Your previous U.S. passport was issued when you were under age 16
  • Your previous U.S. passport was lost, stolen, or damaged
  • Your previous U.S. passport was issued more than 15 years ago

If none of the above statements apply to you, you may be eligible to Renew using Form DS-82.

Online processing is not available at this time, however,  you are able to fill out the appropriate forms online and print to bring to our office.  We strongly recommend that you print your forms single sided and in black  & white.

Passport Payments

Two separate payments are required.  One payment is for the passport application fee and the other is for the processing fee. See the fee chart below. 

Passport Application fee must be in the form of a check or money order payable to the US Department of State. Starter checks, cash, or credit cards cannot be accepted at our facility for passport application fees. Note:  If you are having more than one passport processed you are required to have a separate check for each passport application fee being processed.PASSPORT

Passport Processing fees are payable to the Grand Traverse County Treasurer. We accept check, cash, or credit card (fees apply) for processing fees.  If you are having more than one passport processed we can combine all processing fees into one payment.

We offer passport photo services on site by appointment only, the fee is $10.00 per set
